Riamba came together in 1998 inspired by traditional Cuban music in the Son style – the roots of Salsa. Drawing upon this style, the group created its own sound that combines the hot rhythms of Latin America with European harmony and the virtuosity of jazz. A combination that has resulted in a sound that energises musicians and dancers alike.
Riamba’s musicians, who are from the UK, Europe and Latin America, have had an eclectic musical training with professional experiences to match, encompassing: classical, jazz, pop and Latin American music. As individuals this has led them to perform on tours in the UK and around the world with artists such as: Björk, Ricky Martin, The Ghanaian Dance Ensemble, Stewart Copeland (The Police), Taj Mahal, The Temptations, and at venues which include: Pizza on the Park, The 606 Club, The Royal Festival Hall, Blue Note Club (New York), The Sydney Festival (Australia) and The National Theatre (Ghana). |
